Established in 1992, the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators is a
professional organization of teacher educators in Schools and Colleges of Education and Departments of Mathematics as well as
others interested in mathematics teacher education. The members of AMTE work together
to promote and improve the education of preservice and inservice teachers of mathematics.
AMTE is committed to the following goals:
Promoting leadership among mathematics teacher
educators within the broad mathematics education community.
Serving as a clearinghouse for ideas and resources
in mathematics teacher education.
Encouraging research related to mathematics teacher
education.
Supporting programs for prospective mathematics
teachers at all grade levels, especially for members of traditionally underrepresented populations.
Facilitating communication among mathematics teacher
educators at the elementary, secondary, community college, and college and university level.
Working collaboratively with other associations and
organizations concerned with the preparation and professional development of mathematics teachers. |
Activities for the membership include an annual
conference, publication of a newsletter three times a year, a meeting held during the annual meeting of the National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics, and a listserv which serves to encourage the exchange of ideas among members on issues in mathematics
teacher education. |
