The Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) invites applications and nominations for the position of CBMS Director. This is a position of up to one-third FTE with a target starting date of mid-January 2022.
CBMS is an umbrella organization consisting of nineteen professional societies all of which have as one of their primary objectives the increase or diffusion of knowledge in one or more of the mathematical sciences. Its purpose is to promote understanding and cooperation among these national organizations so that they work together and support each other in their efforts to promote research, improve education, and expand the uses of mathematics. The successful candidate will be a member of one or more of the CBMS member societies, and have significant administrative experience, demonstrated strong leadership ability, outstanding speaking and writing skills, and experience with seeking, obtaining and administering external grants. Knowledge of the major issues facing member societies and the profession, the ability to understand, appreciate and represent the views and perspectives of the different member societies, and the ability to communicate with and work with diverse individuals and to seek consensus for the common good are all essential. National visibility with one or more member societies and the mathematics/mathematics education professional communities is desirable.
